What does the future hold?
The Memory Bank Website
So that the archive of Borders memories continues to grow and develop, this website has been designed to allow people with memories of Borders life to add material of their own to the Memory Bank on line. This material may be recorded as written or spoken reminiscence, photographs and digital video. We also invite people to add additional information to enhance the existing material where appropriate.
On the ground
All the material in the Memory Bank collection will be held in a digital archive with most of the contributions being stored on archive compact disks. The Memory Bank has undertaken to keep in touch with technological developments and will ensure that the collection will always be stored in an accessible format. Having a digital archive means that the existing loaning collection can be expanded and improved in the future.
We hope that you have enjoyed this brief introduction to the Scottish Borders Memory Bank. You will find more information about the Memory Bank on screen and, of course, you can start searching the site to read, see, hear and experience the hundreds of extraordinary stories from ordinary Borders people.
Future Developments
With the opening of the new Archive and Local History Centre – the Heritage Hub – and the creation of an Archive and Local History team in 2007 the Memory Bank has at last found a home. The Archive and Local History team will be working to develop the Memory Bank site as part of the Heritage Hub so look out for changes and new collecting initiatives over the next twelve months.
